Through the friendly FriendFeed Fantasy Writers Room I discovered that Tor.com is sending free ebooks to registered folks. OMG it’s so awesome to see a huge publication company do this! I really think the wave of the future is with online publication, .pdfs, and the like (not to mention CC licensing…). Yay! Books to read
Not only that, but the wallpaper offerings are truly gorgeous. I’m usually the kind of gal who keeps my wallpaper the same for a while, but I’ve been changing every day.

I signed up at the end of March when I learned about it. I do not usually read novels on the computer, but I will read some chapters to decide if I want the book. The only time I read full-length novels on the computer was when I was sick in bed, very bored, and out of paper-based books to read, at which time I was exceedingly grateful to Baen Free Books.
You can still sign up at http://www.tor.com/ and receive free ebooks and wallpapers. I read that the expected debut of their website is around July 20, so that means several more. For those of you who have missed the ebooks up to now, here are the links:

I also have all the wallpapers (and their individual URLS) except those from the 11th newsletter with Julie Bell and Boris Vallejo (that were offered at the same time as the ebook Sun of Suns by Karl Schroeder) and the very first wallpaper offering in the 3rd newsletter with Todd Lockwood and Stephan Martiniere (that were offered at the same time as the ebook Spin by Robert Charles Wilson). If anyone has those wallpapers, I would be interested in obtaining them. If you are interested in one of the other wallpapers, which I do have, let me know.

Wow, Linda. Thanks! I guess I was late on this one; I don’t think I managed to get half of those books (not to mention my hard-drive crashed last week and I’d thought I couldn’t get the ones I did have back).
You are truly awesome!
